A4 is not letter, and the gap shows
An A4 sheet is 210 x 297 mm, or about 8.27 x 11.69 inches. Compared with US letter, it is narrower by a quarter inch and taller by almost three quarters. Put A4 pages in a US letter folder and the tops catch on the edge or poke out.
A standard 9 x 12 inch folder technically fits A4, with only a few millimeters spare at the top. Pages scrape the fold and corners curl after a few uses. An A4 document folder gives the sheet a proper margin on every side.

When a US company needs A4 document folders
Your overseas clients print on A4, and so do their lawyers and banks. If you send a pitch to a buyer in London, Dubai or Singapore, their papers will arrive in the same folder as yours. Matching their size shows you did the homework.
Exporters, consultants, universities and trade show teams order A4 folders most often. Firms with offices on two continents sometimes run both sizes with one design. Our US-size 9x12 presentation folders pair well for the domestic side of that program.
Ordering A4 folders from the US
- Confirm your documents print on A4, not on letter or legal.
- Choose a flat pocket or a 5 mm to 10 mm spine for thicker reports.
- Ask for our metric A4 die-line, ready for 3 mm bleed.
- Share the file with your overseas team if they handle the design.
- Approve the proof, then tell us where the folders ship in the US.
Measurements in millimeters and inches
The closed folder is about 220 x 310 mm, which is 8.66 x 12.2 inches. Open flat, it measures 440 x 310 mm before any spine. Pockets stand about 100 mm tall, so the heading of each A4 page stays readable.
We build the die-line in millimeters so your designers abroad can work in the units they know. Bleed is 3 mm, the standard outside the US. A spine of 5 mm or 10 mm turns the folder into a document wallet for thick reports.
A4 folder with plastic sleeves, or a pocket folder
Many people searching for an A4 folder with plastic sleeves want a display book with clear pages. This page covers a printed card folder with pockets, which holds loose pages and carries your brand on the cover. If you need clear sleeves bound in, a printed ring binder is the closer fit.
For page-by-page display, our custom ring binders with printed covers take standard punched sleeves. For handing over a proposal to keep, the A4 pocket folder is lighter and simpler. Tell us how the documents will be used and we will suggest the right build.

A4 Presentation Folders: questions we get
What size is an A4 presentation folder?
Ours close at about 220 x 310 mm, or 8.66 x 12.2 inches. That holds a 210 x 297 mm A4 sheet with room to spare.
Can I just use a 9 x 12 folder for A4?
It works in a pinch, but the margin at the top is only a few millimeters. Pages rub and corners bend. A true A4 folder fits better.
Do you offer an A4 folder with plastic sleeves?
Our A4 folders are printed card with pockets, not clear-sleeve display books. For clear sleeves, a printed ring binder holds standard punched pockets.
Can the card slits fit European business cards?
Yes. We cut slits for 85 x 55 mm cards, the common size in Europe. US cards at 3.5 x 2 inches need a slightly different cut, so tell us which.
Can my overseas designer set up the file?
Yes. We send a metric die-line with 3 mm bleed. Our artwork guidelines for folder printing list the file types we accept.
