Custom Soft Touch Folders With Spot UV Highlights

Custom soft touch folders are printed presentation folders sealed in a laminate that feels like velvet or suede in the hand. Pair that muted surface with glossy spot UV and your logo pops by contrast, both to the eye and to the fingertip.

  • Velvet-feel laminate
  • Glossy spot UV accents
  • Full color under coat
  • Resists scuffs and prints

What Soft-Touch Lamination Changes

Soft-touch is a thin matte film bonded over the printed sheet. It has a fine, almost rubbery texture that makes people stop and run a thumb across the cover. That moment of touch is the reason brands choose it.

The film also protects the print. It hides fingerprints better than gloss, shrugs off light scuffs, and keeps the folder from looking worn after a week in a bag. Dark covers, which show marks on plain coated stock, benefit the most.

Spot UV on Custom Soft Touch Folders

Spot UV is a clear, high-gloss coat applied only where you choose, such as a logo, a pattern or a headline. On top of soft-touch, the contrast is strong: shiny against flat, smooth against velvety. Guests often notice the glossy logo by feel before they read it.

Good spot UV designs keep the gloss areas purposeful. A logo, a tagline or a tone-on-tone pattern across a black cover all work well. Want foil in place of gloss? Our embossed and foil stamped folders show how metallic effects sit on the same coat.

Planning a Soft Touch Design

  1. Build the cover design in full color, favoring darker or muted tones.
  2. Mark every gloss area on a separate layer in solid black.
  3. Decide whether the inside also gets the soft-touch film.
  4. Check the free proof for color notes and spot UV placement.
  5. Approve, and we print, laminate, then apply spot UV on top.

How Colors Shift Under a Velvet Coat

Any matte film softens color a little. Bright reds and blues come out slightly deeper, and pure white areas look calmer, not stark. Rich blacks, deep navies and earthy tones look their best.

We account for this in prepress, and your free proof notes any area likely to shift. If exact brand color is critical, a Pantone spot color under the laminate gives the most reliable match. Our guide to paper stocks and finishes compares soft-touch with gloss and matte film side by side.

Brands That Choose a Suede Feel

Spas, salons and wellness brands like the calm, tactile cover; see our spa and salon folders for menu and treatment layouts. Luxury real estate agents use it for listing packets on high-end homes. Agencies use it for pitch folders that need to feel considered.

Soft-touch also suits any folder that gets handled many times, such as a reusable welcome folder at a hotel desk. Because it resists marks, it stays presentable longer than an uncoated cover.

Plan the inside too. Most clients laminate only the outside and keep the pockets in plain coated stock, which keeps costs in check and lets staff write notes on the inner panels.

Custom Soft Touch Folders: questions we get

What does soft-touch lamination feel like?

It feels smooth and slightly velvety, a little like suede or a peach skin. The surface is matte, with no shine. Most people describe it as warm rather than slick, which is the opposite of a glossy cover.

Will my colors look different with soft-touch?

Slightly. The film softens and deepens colors, and whites look less bright. Your proof flags any areas where the shift may matter.

Can I write on a soft touch folder?

Ballpoint pens write on it, but slowly, and some gel inks smear. If staff need to label folders by hand, ask about leaving a small uncoated panel.

How does spot UV work on top of soft-touch?

The folder is laminated first, then clear gloss is applied only to the areas on your spot UV layer. The gloss sits slightly raised and catches the light against the matte film.

Is soft-touch more durable than matte lamination?

Both protect the print well. Soft-touch adds the tactile feel and hides fingerprints a little better, which helps on dark designs.
