Custom Pocket Folders With Your Logo and Card Slits

Custom pocket folders are printed folders built around the pocket: its shape, its height, how it is held in place and what slots are cut into it. This guide helps you pick the pocket that suits your paperwork before you think about the artwork.

  • Glued or locking pockets
  • Curved, angled or straight
  • Business card slits
  • 3 in or 4 in pocket depth

Pocket Shapes and What Each One Says

A straight pocket runs flat across the bottom panel and gives the most holding area. It is the plain, practical choice for documents that get pulled out and read often.

Angled and curved pockets cut the top edge on a slope or an arc. They show more of the page behind them, so a headline or logo on the insert stays visible. A custom die-cut shape can follow a wave, a roofline or a brand mark.

Pocket depth changes the look as well. A 4 in pocket holds pages firmly, while a 3 in pocket leaves more of the inside panel open for printed messages.

Glued Pockets Versus Locking Pockets

Glued pockets are folded up and fixed along the side flaps. They are the strongest option for folders that get stuffed, carried and reopened many times. Reinforced glue lines help when the pocket holds a heavy stack.

Locking pockets use small die-cut tabs that slot into each other, with no glue at all. They ship flat and can be assembled by hand when needed. Some teams prefer them for kraft or uncoated stock, where glue can show through.

Building Your Pocket Folder Step by Step

  1. Decide how many pockets you need based on the documents you hand out together.
  2. Choose a straight, angled, curved or custom die-cut pocket shape.
  3. Select glued or locking construction, and add a capacity gusset if the stack is thick.
  4. Mark where card slits, CD slits or a USB slot should sit on the pocket face.
  5. Send your logo or artwork, then approve the free digital proof showing every cut.

Custom Folders With a Business Card Slot

Business card slits are small cuts on the pocket face that grip a standard 3.5 x 2 in card. They can be horizontal, vertical or set on a diagonal. Each rep adds their own card, so one design serves the whole office.

Other slits hold a CD or DVD, and a USB slot holds a flash drive snugly. Our custom USB folders page shows that build in more detail. Tell us what you plan to insert and we place the cuts where they will not crowd your artwork.

Choosing How Many Pockets You Need

Pocket folder printing is not limited to one layout. Two pockets suit most offices, one pocket suits lighter handouts, and three or four pockets keep larger document sets in order. Our tri-fold folders with three pockets add a third panel for extra sections.

A capacity pocket adds a small gusset so the pocket expands outward. It is useful when one folder carries a thick contract or a catalog alongside loose pages.

Details to Confirm Before You Order

  • Which pocket faces the reader first, left or right
  • Whether your inserts carry a headline that should stay visible
  • How many business cards each folder needs to hold
  • If folders ship flat for hand assembly or arrive glued
  • Whether the pocket edge needs a print-free margin
  • Which stock suits glue lines, coated or uncoated

Custom Pocket Folders: questions we get

What is the difference between glued and locking pockets?

Glued pockets are fixed with adhesive along the side flaps and are the sturdiest choice. Locking pockets hold with interlocking die-cut tabs and no glue. Locking builds suit uncoated or kraft stock and folders that ship flat.

Can I add business card slits to both pockets?

Yes. Most orders put slits on the right pocket only, but you can add them to both sides. We show every slit on your proof so you can check the placement.

Do curved pockets hold less paper than straight ones?

A curved or angled edge leaves a little less grip at its lowest point. The pocket base and capacity stay the same, so a normal stack of letter pages still fits. For thick sets, add a capacity gusset.

Can I print on the inside of the pockets?

Yes. Pockets are part of the same printed sheet, so artwork can run onto the pocket face and inside panel. Many brands print a pattern or a short message there.

What file do I need for a custom pocket shape?

We can send a die-line template for your chosen shape. Place your artwork on it, or send a rough sketch and we draw the die-line for you. Our artwork guidelines for print files list the bleed and safe areas.
