A Cover You Notice With Your Fingertips
Linen stock is made by pressing a fine grid of ridges into the sheet. Run your hand over it and you feel tiny lines in both directions. Hold it to the light and the pattern shows as a soft shadow.
That surface makes a plain folder look deliberate. Even a white cover with a small logo reads as considered and formal. It is the same feel many people know from good letterhead and wedding stationery.
Linen is a paper texture, not a fabric wrap. That keeps the folder light and flat enough to mail, with the same pocket build as any standard folder. If you want real cloth over thick board, that is a different product built for keepsakes.

Printing on Custom Linen Presentation Folders
The ridges are part of the look, and they also set some limits. Ink sits on the high points and dips slightly into the grooves, so large solid areas print with a faint woven pattern. Small text below 7 pt can lose sharpness.
Fine hairlines and thin serif type may break up across the ridges. Thicken them a little, or move them to a foil or emboss layer where the die gives a crisp edge.
Logos, short lines of type and simple shapes in one or two Pantone colors print best. Full-bleed photos are possible but take on a textured, almost canvas look. If your design leans on photography, our smooth presentation folders are a better match.
Setting Up a Linen Order
- Pick a shade: bright white, natural white or ivory.
- Simplify the design to a logo and short text where you can.
- Choose Pantone print, foil, emboss, or a mix of them.
- Keep body type at 7 pt or larger so it reads on the texture.
- Approve the free proof, which notes any fine detail at risk.
Finishes That Keep the Weave Visible
Lamination would flatten the texture, so linen folders are usually left uncoated. That keeps the feel intact and gives a natural, matte surface you can write on with any pen.
Foil stamping and blind embossing work very well here, because the smooth foil or raised area contrasts with the grain around it. A gold foil logo on a white linen cover is a classic combination. For a deeper look at those effects, visit our embossed and foil folder options.
Linen Folders With Logo for Formal Work
Law firms hand out engagement letters and settlement papers in them, and our law firm folders page covers layouts for case files. Accountants, wealth advisers and private schools use linen for the same reason: it looks steady and established.
Linen also suits certificate holders, wedding programs and invitation sets. Because the stock is uncoated, staff can sign or label the cover by hand without smearing. Pair the folder with matching linen envelopes or note cards and the whole set reads as one.
Why Linen Stock
- Tailored, traditional texture
- Uncoated surface takes ink pens and signatures
- Foil and emboss contrast well with the grain
- Suits minimal, logo-led designs
- Matches linen letterhead and envelopes
- No glare under office lighting
Custom Linen Folders: questions we get
What is linen stock?
It is a cover paper with a fine crosshatch pattern pressed into the surface. The pattern looks and feels like woven fabric, though the sheet is paper.
Can I print photos on a linen folder?
You can, but the texture shows through and gives photos a canvas-like look. Logo-led designs with solid colors give the cleanest result.
Can linen folders be laminated?
Lamination would hide the texture, so we usually leave linen uncoated. If you need a coated finish, a smooth stock with soft-touch film may suit you better.
Does linen stock match my letterhead?
If your letterhead is linen, a linen folder in the same shade makes a matched set. Send us a sample sheet name and we confirm the closest match in your quote.
Is gold foil a good choice on linen?
Yes. Gold or silver foil stands out sharply against the textured surface. It is one of the most requested finishes for linen covers.
How do I get a quote for linen folders?
Tell us the size, shade, print colors and any foil through our linen folder quote form. Turnaround, delivery and the final quantity are all spelled out in the quote we send back.
