How Custom Certificate Folders Hold a Page Flat
A certificate folder works differently from a pocket folder. Instead of a deep pocket for loose sheets, the right panel carries four diagonal corner slits or two angled corner pockets. The certificate slides in at the corners and lies flat on display. Nothing covers the signature, seal or name.
The left panel can stay plain, carry a printed message, or hold a second document such as a transcript. Some buyers add a clear name window on the front, the same cut used on our custom die cut folders. We size every slit to your exact certificate, so the sheet never buckles.

Custom Diploma Folders and Graduation Covers
Custom diploma folders are the classic graduation cover. Schools and colleges usually pick a deep school color on linen-textured cover or leatherette, then foil stamp the crest and the words Diploma or Certificate of Completion. A ribbon across the inside panel adds a formal touch and helps hold the diploma in place.
For commencement, many schools hand every graduate an empty cover on stage and mail the diploma later. Others insert each diploma before the ceremony. Either way, we can shrink-wrap covers in sets by department to keep stage day calm. Pair them with student folders for your school for one look across the whole year.
Ordering Certificate Covers for a Ceremony
- Measure the exact certificate trim size, since the corner slits are cut to fit that sheet.
- Choose a cover stock, then decide between foil, embossing or full color for the crest or logo.
- Send the crest, seal or logo as vector art so we can check the file at no charge.
- Approve the free digital proof, which marks each corner slit position on the die-line.
- Ask for covers shrink-wrapped by class, department or award type, ready to carry to the stage.
Award, Training and Birth Certificate Holders
Companies use a personalized certificate folder for long-service awards, sales recognition and training completion. A matte laminated cover with your logo in spot UV looks sharp in the handover photo. Pantone spot colors keep the brand exact across every award level.
Hospitals, birthing centers and family history services order birth certificate holders. These tend to be gentle in design, printed in soft colors with a blind-embossed motif on the cover. A short line inside, such as a welcome to the world, turns the holder into a keepsake.

Custom Certificate Folders: questions we get
Will my certificate fit without folding?
Yes. We size the folder to your sheet, most often 8.5 x 11 in or A4, and cut the corner slits so the page sits flat. Tell us the exact trim size if your certificate is an unusual shape.
Can each folder show a different name?
Names usually print on the certificate itself, while the folder carries the school or company design. If you want the name visible from outside, a die-cut window can line up with the name on the sheet behind it.
What cover looks most formal for diplomas?
Linen-textured cover or leatherette with gold foil is the traditional choice. Matte lamination with a blind-embossed crest is a quieter option. Our guide to paper stocks and finishes compares each one side by side.
Do you print short runs for a single award program?
Yes. Small award runs and large graduation orders are both quoted. Share your ceremony date, and the quote spells out quantity, turnaround and delivery for it.
Can one folder hold a certificate and a transcript?
Yes. Keep the corner slits on the right panel for the certificate and add a flat pocket on the left for a transcript or letter. A business card slit on that pocket is also available.
Can the cover be printed in our school or company colors?
Yes. Colored stocks and full color printing both work, and Pantone spot colors give the closest match to a brand guide. Foil reads well on dark covers, where printed ink can look flat.
